3D + 4DX costs about $12.00 (315 CZK) per person. Normal 3D movies cost $8.00 (219 CZK / 179 CZK Mondays), and traditional 2D movies cost $7.00 (189 CZK / 149 CZK Mondays). 3D glasses cost about $1.00 - but you can reuse them. Cinema City has bulk gummy bears and bacon cheese popcorn!

For English, you want SUBTITLES (NOT DUBBING)!! Movies are available in a few different formats in Prague. Almost all American movies will have Czech subtitles, but often they will have Czech actors dub voiceovers and there are NO English subtitles (so if you don't speak Czech you're screwed with dubbing). Most blockbusters will be available in "3D with Subtitles" and "2D with Subtitles". Don't worry if some of the movie trailers are in Czech language as long as you are sure your ticket says "subtitles" (the subtitles will be in Czech language but the actors will speak in English like normal).

If you go to the Cinema City or CineStar in Andel Mall - you can drink beer, smoke, and play bowling, pool, or foosball in a bar while you wait for your movie to start. The dozens of "Kinos" on Prague's map are mostly 'B'-film theaters, and most "Theaters" (including blacklight theaters) are more like the opera where Mozart has played.

3D + 4D Movies

4D film or 4-D film is a marketing term for an entertainment presentation system combining a 3D film with physical effects that occur in the theater in synchronization with the film. Effects simulated in a 4D film may include rain, wind, strobe lights, and vibration. Seats in 4D venues may vibrate or move a few inches during the presentations. Other common chair effects include air jets, water sprays, and leg and back ticklers. Hall effects may include smoke, rain, lightning, air bubbles, and smell.

Because physical effects can be expensive to install, 4D films are most often presented in custom-built theaters at special venues such as theme parks and amusement parks. However, some movie theaters have the ability to present 4D versions of wide-release 3D films. The films Journey to the Center of the Earth (2008) and Avatar (2009) are among the films that have received a 4D treatment in certain theaters.

There is no consistent standard for using the term "4D" when describing the presentation of a film. 4D films have also occasionally been marketed as 5D, 6D, 7D, 8D, 9D, 11D, 15D and so on in order to emphasize the variety or uniqueness of their theater effects. This is scientifically different to actual fourth dimensional space.

Notable formats for providing different aspects of a "fourth dimension" to films include Sensurround, Smell-O-Vision, and 4DX.

What is 4DX?

4DX = Motion + Water + Light + Scent + Wind!

4DX is the most immersive 3D cinema experience playing Hollywood blockbuster films with 4D effects. It is another step in enhancing the stimulation of the human senses further to draw you into the movie.

4DX theaters are equipped with high-technology motion seats that move in perfect sync with on-screen action. The realistic sophisticated motion is designed by fully trained CJ 4DPLEX’ motion programmers which sets 4DX apart from the unrefined and turbulent motions you may experience elsewhere.

But the fun doesn’t stop there. You will be able to experience special effects such as wind, fog, lightning, and scents that enhance what you see on the screen. 4DX enables you to connect with the movie, sending you on a journey with the characters, and ultimately freeing yourself from the flat screen. Movie going is no longer just a simple viewing, but an all-encompassing experience. Don’t just watch the movie; be in it. Make it your experience.

It is the time to transform the experience of watching a movie. Each 4DX seat moves on 3 axes of motion: rolling, heaving and pitching. A variety of chair-embedded effects, plus shots of air, bursts of water, leg & back ticklers, allow for a complete immersion of audience into the movie as they become part of the story on-screen. Make it more intense and immersive by using all your senses! Motion chairs move in all directions in reaction to what is shown on screen. A special device sprays filtered water for realistic experience of the movie. The “Neck Air System” installed in the motion chairs blows air to the neck. A totally immersive experience including real scents of each scene. Lightning bolts flash from the theater ceilings using special lightning effects.
